Family Law

We deal with all types of family law cases. We have a Legal Services Commission Franchise allowing us to obtain public funding for a wide range of family related matters. For those not eligible for public funding we also offer a privately funded service. Our Matrimonial Department deals with ancillary relief and financial provision in divorce cases at all levels having represented clients at the Court of Appeal in respect of financial provision on marriage breakdown. Our solicitors also have wide ranging experience of children cases, such as contact proceedings, residence proceedings and public law care proceedings. Whether you are married or cohabiting a relationship breakdown can have serious implications especially if children are involved. Our highly specialist team of solicitors are trained to keep conflict out of court in order to make amicable agreements between parties. Research shows that this is the best way to end such conflict and this usually has less impact on the parties and the children. However, we will pursue orders through the courts if matters cannot be settled out of court. That is why our solicitors are members of Resolution, an organisation which seeks to improve the family justice system and believes in a constructive, non confrontational approach to family law matters.

We have a thriving Matrimonial department led by Bushra Khan a partner specialising in family law. Bushra has extensive experience of representing clients in all types of family law disputes. However, she has particular expertise in international cases such as child abduction, divorce and ancillary relief. In recent times she was the lead solicitor on a High Court case which successfully challenged the judges protocol for Pakistan Jurisdiction. Bushra's expertise secured the return of children from Pakistan and the payment of Ancillary relief to the parent with care. Bushra has successfully represented several clients with international family law issues. She has been highly successful in this complex area of law. International cases can vary greatly from UK cases, they require different action and timetables from UK family law cases therefore they require a practitioner experienced in such matters. Bushra has a particular expertise in conflicts relation to Indian and Pakistani Law. Bushra has practiced both UK and international family law for 3 years she is a member of Reunite. At Thompson & Co, we realise how hard it is for client's to take that first step to protect themselves from domestic violence that is why we aim to have one of our own advocates represent clients at first non-molestation applications.

We are dedicated to ensuring that clients benefit from our extensive experience, we are able to understand your requirements and advise you on the prospects of success and potential difficulties in pursuing your application.
